Could receiving standard of care for trauma (i.e. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)) versus standard of care for depression more successfully treat individuals with MS who present with signs of depression?

Depression is one of the most common symptoms of MS and studies have suggested that clinical depression is more frequent among people with MS than it is in the general population or in many other chronic illnesses. Understanding that the disease process itself can affect areas of the brain and contribute to depression, is it also possible that clinicians are misdiagnosing trauma as depression since some of the symptoms of trauma can resemble and overlap with other mental health conditions? Could screening for and addressing the trauma that many individuals have experienced on their MS diagnosis journey result in better outcomes and fewer reported cases of depression in MS?
